my creative space: doing, dabbling & pottering

I'm a bit late his week due to a little lack of creative motivation! It does happen to me sometimes and I don't like it at all when it does! But I have been dabbling in a few creative things this week trying to reignite the creative flame...

:: screen printing lots of fuchsia

:: screen printing with silver ink on blue... love it!

:: making handmade labels using stamps and uni posca pen

:: making fimo beads... hope the idea I have in my head works out!

So you see I have been doing, dabbling and pottering around but just in slow mo! I tell myself that I should just enjoy this slow phase because I know it's going to be one busy and crazy year!

Hope your week has been a creative one... Check out lots of creative people here! :)

my creative space: screen printing and mishaps

Gosh what happened to this week... so much to do and so little time! This week I have been screen printing tea towels with my poppy design... but with a few dramas!

I ran out tea towels and then I ran out of fuchsia ink! I had a few screen printing mishaps (it happens sometimes... then had to get more tea towels...grrrr) and I had to carve the flower centers out twice because I wasn't happy with the first two, they ended up being a bit too small!

I finally got there in the end and I'm really happy with how they turned out! All I need now is some sunshine so I can take some nice photo! :)

Hope you are having a great, mishap free, creative week!

my creative space: snowflake stamp

Yikes.. a bit late with my creative space this week! I have no idea where this week has gone...? I have been a busy little bee, carving snowflake stamps and stamping Christmas cards!

:: carving snowflake stamp

:: carved and ready for stamping
:: he had fun stamping some Christmas cards :)

:: I did some stamping too...

I also used my snowflake stamp for making Christmas ornaments for the handmade ornament swap hosted by Christina Lowry Designs! I used some air dry clay, inked up the stamp and pressed it into the clay, then used a cup to cut out the circle around the snowflake and voila!! LOVE it!

I really love the rusticness (is that a word) of the stamp too! What a useful little stamp! Now... what else can I stamp :)

Hope you are having a great creative week!

christmas number one

It's still crazy busy around here... so much to do in so little time! Last Sunday we had a small pre-christmas and a birthday get together with family as a couple of them are going overseas for christmas... lucky ducks! We had a great day and my little man was getting quite excited about the whole christmas and presents thing... it was so cute!

Last week, I was very busy doing more tea dying fabric, screen printing and making cushions for one of the presents. I'm so pleased with how they turned out :)

I made my very first rainbow cake!!! I didn't have time to do a stack of cakes, so I just layered the different colours "carefully" on top of each other.

The cake didn't seem to rise very much...  but I am really happy with my first attempt! And my little man LOVED helping out, being the helper/taster! There wasn't much left at the end of the festivities :)

Well better get back to it... I'm still super busy, lots more things to make and do :)

Hope you are having a great week and not to crazy busy :)

my creative space: screen printing, stamping and dying

It's been a very busy week for me! Lots of little projects to do for xmas! My brain is a bit scrambled at the moment and I'm having trouble putting words together, so here is my week in photos... I have been:

screen printing
:: screen printing tops

stamping  xmas cards
:: stamping - making xmas cards with my little man

tea dying
:: tea dying fabric

printed labels
:: making labels

more screen printing
:: lots more screen printing

Phew... and that it only the tip of the iceberg... next week is going to be even busier... Yikes!! :)

Hope you are having a great creative week!

a busy morning...

My little man went over to his grandma and pop for a few hours this morning, so Mr and I took a little trip to Reverse Garbage in Marrickville! It's a great place to rummage around, there are some strange and weird things in there... one persons trash is an others persons treasure... I do wonders sometimes though!

Amazingly, I only spent $5! I didn't come out with much but they were things that I needed, a metal ruler $1.50, wrapping ribbon $2.00 and some bag rings for $1.50 (I'm planning to make a new bag)... Woo hoo!!

I also had to get a few things done before my little man got home this morning ... I got busy stamping and wrapping a present, making a feather pirate sword and fixing up a pirate hat for a 3 year old dress up birthday party that we are going to tomorrow! My little man is going to LOVE it! It should be great fun :)

Day 8 of blogtoberfest 2011

Hope you are all having a great weekend :)

my creative space: cars and plane stamps

I woke up this morning thinking it was Wednesday and also thinking I have plenty of time to do something for my creative space... then realised... it's THURSDAY.... Yikes!!! Luckily I had planned to do some stamps on plain t-shirts for my little man! I had already made the car and plane stamps, so I was ready to go!

:: some early morning stamping in my sunny little kitchen

:: YAY.. two cute t-shirts!!

Such a quick and easy little project to do and I'm so happy with how they turned out. I really like working with stamps, they do allow you to be quite creative!

I think I am slowing coming out of my creative rut... Finally!! Nothing like a kick up the creative butt by our creative space to get things done :)

Hope you are having a great creative week!

30 minutes spare...

What to do on a Friday night, when you have just put the potatoes in the oven, Mr has gone to the garage/workshop to tinker and you have 30 minutes spare before sorting the rest of dinner out....

Make a flower stamp... of course!!!

I sketched my little flower design, trace it onto the stamp rubber and carved it out.... all in 30 minutes! I love it :)

Hope you are having a lovely weekend!!

my creative space: dreams and stamps

I have to tell you about a funny dream I had about a week or so ago.. I just haven't stop thinking about it and laughing!!!

my dream...
Somehow I ended up in "CRAFT JAIL"! I don't know why... ha ha ha! There I was walking around "Craft Jail"...each cell had their own different craft... crochet, knitting, embroidery etc... just like they were stalls at a market but in jail cells! Everyone was sitting in their little cells doing their crafts, happily! At the end of all the cells there was a new comer with their cell door shut and we were all hanging around, in anticipation, waiting to see what new the craft crime might be... we were all very excited! Unfortunately I woke up and didn't get to find out!

So funny... who wouldn't want to be in THAT jail!!! Anyway back to the real world!

This week has been pretty quiet, which is nice for a change but I still managed to do a bit of stamp carving of my little wobbly cars! I really love carving stamps, they are such a quick and easy craft to do... very satisfying! I'm planning on using these car stamps on some bed sheets (and probably many other things) for my little man :)

:: sketch design and trace onto stamp block

:: trim stamp block and carve outline of car

:: carve out the remaining, test stamp and fix all the stray bits

:: play with stamps :)

Hope you are having a great creative week!

playing with stamps

Wow.. I'm really lucky to have my wonderful in-laws move in, right around the corner in the next street a few weeks ago! Today was the first time they took my little man for the morning.. my partner works on Saturday mornings which meant I had the whole...WHOLE morning to myself! I think my brain nearly exploded at the thought... what to do with all that precious time!

First I had a little cry after saying goodbye to my little man.... I haven't left him in others peoples care very often, so I was a bit emotional (I'm such a sook)! Then I got out my new toys and carved some stamps! Yesterday, I watched a few YouTube tutorials, just to see if I could pick up some pointers which I did! So... I carved some practice ones to get use to using the tools... I was really happy with how they turned out! I don't have any stamp pads yet, so I just mixed up some paint I had and brushed it on the stamp to test them out, I quite like the effect!

My little plane stamp still needs a few adjustments, but it's looking good so far too... I went a bit crazy stamping it over loads of paper every which way... Love it :)

I also got to play with my other favourite toy, my camera!! It was so much fun this morning and it was so nice to have no interruptions... though I did miss the "little" interruptions... a lot! :)

Hope you are all having a great weekend :)

my creative space: knitting and a stamp

Hooray... I have finally finished my scarf! It ended up being a lot bigger that I thought it was going to be, but I love it! There is a hell of lot of sitting around knitting while watching my little man eat his breakfast and lunch in that scarf! Only problem now is that the weather is warming up and I probably won't be able to wear it much... bummer!! But at least it may be used for other things ... a knitted road ? :)

:: scarf... road?

I'm also working on a little paper plane stamp with my new toys... I'm very excited!!!

Hope you are having a great creative week!

my creative space: potato and bubble wrap

I was lucky enough had a few hours to myself on Tuesday morning, my little man and his daddy went for a trip to grandma's house and had a great time! It was so nice just to have some uninterrupted time to do whatever I wanted... bliss!

I have been itching to do some printing on M's plain tops and so I thought a nice quick way would be to do some potato stamps! Triangles are really easy to cut out and I also cut some lines into them to add a bit more texture. I applied fabric paint with a sponge roller and started stamping! I really love how his little top turned out :)

It's hard to get a photo of my busy little man sometimes!
Then I went a bit crazy and decided to make a bit of a mess using some bubble wrap as a stamp! I'm not sure if I like the result but I love the colours and it was a lot of fun experimenting.

He looks like a little raver - dancing in the lounge room!
