my creative space: handprinted fabric swap

This week I have been busy freaking out over the handprinted fabric swap... The deadline is Monday 14th November!! There are too many ideas whirling around in my head! I can drive myself a little crazy at times... why can't I go for the simple option... Ohhhh Noooooo... I must do something challenging!! I can't help it.. I love a challenge :)

fat quater no. 1- chevron
I know this may look quite simple on the outside, but I can asure you it was a bit of a challenge! Two colour repeat... yikes! I always freak out when I'm doing the last bit part of the screen printing...

:: cutting stencils

:: screen printing and holding my breath!!!

:: chevron screen print - grey and mustard

Lucky for me it worked out just fine.. pheeeeewww!!

fat quater no. 2 - geometric flower
I just love messing around and making geometric patterns in Adobe Illustrator... this one happened by accident :)

:: stencil cutting

:: screen printing

:: geometric flower screen print - teal

Unfortunately I made a bit of a little boo boo when I was screen printing the top right hand corner... a bit of shadowing from ink leaking on the back of the stencil... grrrrr!!! So I will have to redo this screen print again... boo hoo hoo!!

:: a bit of a boo boo!

update: I re-screen printed the geometric flower fat quarter last night and it turned out perfect... I think I held my breath the whole time I was printing :)

I'm really happy with my little designs and I'm looking forward to sending them off into the world as part of the handprinted fabric swap!

Hope you are having a great creative week!
There are loads more creative people over at our creative spaces...

  4. i love your designs! specially the chevron. i wouldn't be too fussed about the leak ~ it's a sure sign that it's hand done :)

  5. I couldn't see the leak, even when I clicked on the photo, and *barely* saw it in the larger photo. And no, the chevron doesn't look simple at all! I love both your fabrics. I'm so glad you showed them; I've been wondering what you'd do!

  6. Oh my I love them, especially the chevron one! Love the colours and love the pattern. And I wouldn't worry about little mistakes like the one in the last one, they make it look handmade and I love that.

  7. Wowzers they look great, I remember trying some screen printing back in high school, certainly not as cool as this! Well done!

  8. I totally agree with the gals who said not to worry about the little 'leak' and that this is a handmade not machine made print after all, but I know there's no way you'll send it off. As it happens that blue geometric is my fav of the two, love the colour and the design.

  11. This is beautifully done! I'm actually looking forward to go home to my moms place for Christmas and start doing these kinds of things. Here at my dorm room, there is just not enough space. I would really like to know more about hand printing of fabric. Maybe you could recommend me a book?

  12. Wow, they're fantastic! I can see how working out the stencil for the chevrons would have given *me* a headache. ;) I actually like the "mistake" on the last piece--it's authentic, and I like that. I'll take it. ;)
