The super lovely Alice from Craft and the Cat interviewed with me on her adorable blog. It was a fun little interview with questions about "do a bit", screen printing and of course, cats!

Aztec coin pouch tutorial

I put together a little DIY Aztec coin pouch pack for the abcd social/ Etsy craft party on Saturday 7th June 2014. I had so much fun putting it together... love having a project to do!

So here is the Aztec coin pouch tutorial:

This Aztec design has been created with a hand cut stencil which is then used to hand screen print using eco friendly ink.

Materials in pack:
2 x hand printed Aztec fabric - 55% linen and 45% cotton
2 x interfacing
2 x lining fabric - 100% cotton
1 x 10cm metal zip
1 x grosgrain ribbon for zip pull

What you will need:
- sewing Machine - zipper foot
  and zig zag/general foot
- off white cotton thread
- scissors
- pins
- iron

Step 1:
Iron (low heat) interfacing with the rough side down on to the back of the hand printed fabric.
This will give the fabric a bit more weight.

Step 2:
Place one piece of printed fabric on the table face up - then place the zip - top side down on the top edge of the fabric. Then place the lining fabric (do a bit) facing down on the edge of the fabric.
My lovely Mother -in-law likes to call this a "zip sandwich"! :)

 Step 3:
Using the zipper foot - sew along the edge close to the zip. You will need to unzip the zip once you are about halfway and continue sewing.

Step 4:
Repeat step 2 and 3 for the other side of the zip.

- Try to line up the pattern as below

Step 5:
Using the iron, press both sides of the fabric so the zip seams are nice and flat.
Trim any loose threads.

Step 6:
Open the zip ¾ of the way - this is important because if you don't you won't be able to turn the pouch inside out when it's finished! It can be a major disaster!

Step 7:
Place the hand printed fabric right sides together and do the same with the lining fabric - pin together.
Tip: hold pattern side together, up to the light, to match the pattern up.

Step 8:
Using the zigzag/ general foot - sew together around the edge, leaving a gap at the bottom of the lining fabric.
Tip: to make sure that you are sewing around the pattern side equally (curves can be a challenge to sew) Hold pinned pattern side up against the light of a window - use a tailors chalk or pencil to lightly trace the edge of the pattern... this will help when you are sewing :)

Step 9:
Cut a few notches around curved parts of the pouch - this will create a smoother curve once turned inside out. (you can use pinking shears for this too)

Step 10:
Turn pouch inside out through the opening and then hand stitch the opening closed.

Step 11:
Press the pouch with a warm iron and then add ribbon to the zip.

Woo hoo… you have a lovely new little coin pouch!

Enjoy! xxx

***happy new year***

Happy New Year! I am really looking forward to see what 2014 brings... I feel it's going to be an AWESOME one!

We had a wonderful Christmas and new year break... lots of relaxing! I am totally refreshed and ready to jump back into it all again! I had a total break from screen printing which was really hard to do, because I love it so much but I did get to work on a few other projects.

I whipped up an new oven mitt  for the kitchen and made myself a new messenger bag! Love my new bag!

I also decided to dress kitty & bear up as robbers to make them look a bit more boyish for a friends little boy... they also could be off to the movies with 3D glasses on with bags of lollies!  :)

Once our holiday break was over I went on a screen printing frenzy... it felt soooo good!

I also totally satisfied my metallic ink obsession! Loving the metallic copper...

...and my new obsession... gold metallic ink! Love it!!!

I'm looking forward to getting some new things in my little Etsy shop soon!

Hope you all had a lovely time over the holiday season!
Hope the new year is a fantastic one!

Etsy Pop-Up Shop Sydney

It's been very busy around here lately... lots of things happening especially as Christmas is just around the corner.

I am so excited to be apart of the first Etsy Australia Christmas Pop-up store in Sydney which is on between 28th November to 12th December at 74 Castlereagh Street Sydney!

So there has been a lot of screen printing, sewing and making frenzy going on around here and I'm loving every minute... writing lots lists and crossing lots of things off them! Love it!

I just love the whole process of making something for my little Etsy shop! Cutting out panels for screen printing... so much satisfaction in a big pile of cut fabric! I can never get sick of screen printing... I still hold my breath a bit when I lift the screen to see the print underneath... I think it's a miracle every time :) Sewing and more sewing... sooo satisfying when they are complete! Love it!

So these little darlings went for a trip to the Etsy Christmas Pop-up store.

made by hand: screen printing goodies

This week I went to a fantastic little get together "Sydney abcd Social" meet up at the 3 Weeds Hotel in Rozelle which is organised by lovely ladies, Steph from Bondville and Lisa from The Red Thread.

I had such a wonderful evening catching up with, and meeting other lovely creative women! It was so much fun talking and chatting about all things creative. We also got to contribute to the goodies bags, which everyone received at the end of the night! I decided to do some little fabric packs for everyone! So I got stuck into some screen printing... any excuse!!! :)

:: I just had to screen print some fuchsia seedlings!

:: folded up 28 little lovelies

:: packed them up!

I had so much fun screen printing, folding and packing up these very special little fabric packs for the goodies bags!

:: Oh My Gosh the gorgeous contents of the goodies bag!

The goodies bag is such a wonderful way for everyone to share what they do! I just love it! I was blown away with the contents of the goodies bag I received... soooo many lovely and creative things! It felt like Christmas! The delicious food treats didn't last long at all, they were very quickly gobbled up by my little boy and my partner. I have a terrible dairy allergy so I was happy to hand it all over to them! They were very happy chappies :)

It was such a lovely evening spent with so many talented, creative and inspiring women! :)

Hope you had a wonderful and creative week!
